This half-term in 1GC we have been developing our creativity! During our English lessons we have been focussing on the story of ‘The Queen’s Hat’ by Steve Antony in which The Queen’s hat flies all around London. The children then created their own versions of the story using exciting adjectives and interesting similes! In art we have been exploring sculpting using paper, including rolling, folding and scrunching techniques to create 3D trees but the highlight of the term so far has been creating puppets during our DT Enrichment Day! We worked hard to design our characters, explored different materials and embellishments and considered the best joining techniques before creating our masterpieces!
Life in 3SG In 3SG, learning is a blast! Our teachers make it fun with brain break games like Silent Murray The Monkey and heads or tails. We're learning tons, but also making great memories together! Written by DA, PA Library Visit Last week, we had our very first library visit and it was fantastic! Just a short walk from school, we met Meg, the kindest librarian ever. She showed us around and explained everything about the library. We always thought the library was full of adult books, but it was filled with so many children's books, all for free with a library card! We were thrilled to find the entire 13-Storey Treehouse series, one of our absolute favourites. Written by RH, GB, IT, RC, KM, NM, CM, SOH Writing
We have been reading "The Magic Paintbrush" and delved deep into its mystical world, inspiring our own creative writing. Mr. Green has made the story come alive for us – we practically know it by heart! We have been focusing on direct speech and been trying to remember to use inverted commas. We have been remembering that “said is dead”. Instead, we use more ambitious words like "muttered," "commented," and "spluttered." Written by ED Maths In maths, we're mastering new methods, building confidence, and solving problems faster than ever. We love using column addition and column subtraction to help us solve problems. The brand-new skill we have been learning this week is column multiplication. What's even better? Helping others! Once we've got a grip on a math skill, we love lending a helping hand to our classmates. Because let's face it, maths is more fun when we're all in it together. Written by DJ, VR, AC Science Animals including humans is our new topic in science and let us tell you, it's fascinating stuff. We loved looking at all the scientific names for bones in the human body – it made us feel like doctors! Did you know spiders have an exoskeleton? Yep, no bones for these eight-legged wonders! It's mind-blowing facts like these that keep us loving our science lessons! Written by ASL, IF,IL History We love our history lessons and are enjoying our new topic of ‘The Romans’. We delved deep into the legend of Romulus and Remus and made our own storyboards to bring the tale to life. And guess what? We were bursting with pride as some of us showcased our creations to other teachers in Year 3. It was a moment to remember! What do we want to learn next? What made the Romans so powerful? I guess we’ll find out in our next History lesson… Written by AG, PG, ED French Bonjour! Je m'appelle E-JO! In French, we love learning new words and phrases! We have learned different greetings, colours and the names of some animals. It is so much fun learning a new language! Written by E-JO This half term, we have introduced 28 new Reading Ambassador roles across the school. The role of a Reading Ambassador is to engage, encourage and support the creation of a positive Reading for Pleasure ethos. We have one Reading Ambassador for every class across the school. These children were selected for this role because of their joy for reading and their ideas for how we can continue to improve reading across the school. Ambassadors work alongside the their classes and teachers, to ensure that high-quality texts and a positive reading atmosphere are a high priority in our school. The role involves: - maintaining the school library and the reading areas in all classrooms and outside areas. - being involved in the organisation of book events such as World Book Day. - offering advice, support and recommendations to their peers about which books to read. - writing mini reviews and sharing them in the reading areas across the school. - creation and maintenance of a Suggestions Box to support the purchasing of new books and other ideas to improve reading.
Only two weeks to go until the half way point of the year and plenty to look forward to, including; curriculum enrichment day (Friday 9th February), national children’s mental health week, internet safety day (Tuesday 6th February) and the Chinese new year (Saturday 10th February).
