In our Reception classes we have been learning about traditional tales this half term.
Mrs Smith asked some of the children about their learning, they said:

'I loved acting the stories out using masks'.
'I enjoyed making the hats for the Jubilee'.
'Daily writing has been fun'.
'Making salt dough was fine'.
'Painting beanstalks was great'.
'I enjoyed making the jubilee hats'.
'The teddy bears picnic was lovely'.
'Making shapes pictures was the best'.

Miss Moore Teacher blog – 18.5.22

Firstly I would like to say a huge congratulations to Year 6 for completing their SATs. The children all worked incredibly hard throughout the week and should be enormously proud of their efforts. It was great to see the children so relaxed, and dare I say actually enjoying the week - although I think the bagel breakfast served by the teachers was the main source of enjoyment! As a reward for their efforts, the children enjoyed a fun Friday, filled with films, their favourite class game (The Pirate Game), cricket and free time. Once again well done Year 6!

To begin the week after SATs the children participated in an art curriculum day. As some of you may know, a group called Kinetika have been into the school to get the children involved in the T100 festival as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Kinetika specialise in hand painted silks, and have made some incredible silk flags celebrating the key workers of Thurrock. We collaborated with them to make our own beautiful artwork to celebrate key workers in our community. We used the paper that Kinetika had used to print their silks onto, which had remnants of their painting and attached our own key worker drawings onto it.

Maths Blog reception

This week in maths we have been learning all about shapes, we have been manipulating shapes to fit into a space .   We had to think what shape would fit into the shape. We looked at different sized shapes and different types of triangles. We are getting very good at naming the shapes and thinking knowing the properties of the different shapes.

Year 3’s learning is currently inspired by the book ‘Escape from Pompeii’, the ‘Romans’ and ‘Light’ in Science. This is what some of the pupils in 3 NM thought of their learning.
“History is a lot of fun, we have learned about the Roman army and why they were so powerful” CS
“I really like everything we do. I love learning about Pompeii, actually I love school.” LA
“The most interesting lesson this week was Science, because we learned about the light creating shadows.” EGW
“I had fun in Maths, even though it’s not my favourite subject, but it is getting fun to me. I love learning about Pompeii, it is very interesting.” SDC
“I like doing art, so far we have designed our Roman Shields and I can’t wait to make them, I also really enjoy music, I like singing Do Ray Me with everyone.” IC
“I really think Pompeii is so interesting, History has been really interesting.” FH
“I love learning about Pompeii in English and History and I like doing Maths and Art, I like learning in school.” AOB
“I love phonics, Maths and Art.” AV
“I love Maths, learning to work out fractions, using numerator and denominators. I loved about English when we became Journalists and interviewed others asking them questions about Pompeii.” RS
“I love Maths, adding numbers and making new numbers. Making a shield is exciting; our designs included patterns of symmetry. I think Science is fun because you can learn stuff that you never knew.” RW
“We learned about the Romans and their army, we will be making shields where we will use paint. Learning about ‘Light’ in Science is also fun.” AB
“I am interested in Newsround, finding out what news there is around the world. I also like RE because it is so interesting to learn about the different beliefs.” JS
