Year 3 have been learning about Brazil. They found out information about the physical and human features that they would find if they visited Brazil. They then wrote postcards pretending to be in Brazil, sharing the cultural life that they would see if they visited there.
What’s been going on in 5CP? In English, we have trying to discover what happened to the Year 5 Morpekos (The adults collect Pokémon cards with the children). They suddenly just disappeared at lunch and we cannot find them. The classes looked at some CCTV evidence and we have been listing the suspects we thought might have stolen them I thought it was either Mrs Jarvis, Mr Barry Gregory or Mr Powell. Also, we prepared some questions for Mrs Bates as to what she might do if a teacher was found guilty. In Maths, Mr Palser’s class and Mr Haywood’s class have swapped classes. We have been turning decimals into fractions and turning fractions into decimals. We have been considering the value of numbers beyond the decimal point into the thousandths column. In PE we have been playing cricket and practicing catching to see how many we can get without dropping it and we do this in groups of three at random. When I dis it with Pheobe and Mya (in 5NB) we got to 200 without dropping it. We then practised our bowling technique where we had to keep our arm straight and aim for the stumps. After that, we got to bat as well! Scarlett 5CP Across the school this week, all year groups have been working hard in maths. Year 6 have discovered algebra and have learnt how easy and fun it is to use formula to explain a rule and how to work out the answer to one-step equations. Year 5 have been converting fractions to decimals, problem solving by working out fractions of amounts and then converting the answers into decimals. Year 4 have been learning about area (pupils are first introduced to the concept of area in Year 4) and how to work out the area of a space or shape. They used post-it notes to develop their understanding of the amount of space area takes and that area can be many different shapes. Year 3 have been looking at measurement and have been working on efficient methods of calculation, so that they can make informed choices when problem solving with measurements. Y1 have had a fun and exciting practical week learning about capacity. They have been outside with jugs of varying sizes and water and rice. They have been reading the scales on the measuring jugs to see what the capacity is and estimating how many cups of liquid are needed to fill different containers.
Outdoor Learning Club This term, some of the year 2 children have joined the Outdoor Learning Club. What fun we’ve had so far! In our first week, we started off using the binoculars to look at the various birds that were flying around. We saw four blue tits, a robin, some starlings and the resident parakeets (who often come and join our club, watching us from their favourite tree in our school garden). We listened to some of the different bird songs, while Mrs Smith explained how the starling was mimicking the other birds we could hear. We’ve also been using the mud kitchen in the outdoor learning area.
Lastly, 1CH would like to say a HUGE thankyou and goodbye to Miss Heffron. You are truly going to be missed.
