Final Week of HT5 
Year 3 have worked so hard for the whole of this half term and have enjoyed their new learning about Romans! They have particularly enjoyed creating their own mosaics out of coloured paper.  
This term Year 3 have commented on how much they have enjoyed attending the different after school clubs. In the creative writing club, we focused on writing a story and making a front cover for it, then it was stapled together, and the children got to take home their finished books! We also had a go at writing different texts such as: acrostic poems, riddles and haikus. They have also been practising their mindfulness in yoga club or getting creative in the art club, where they looked at different artists and made their own interpretations based on the artists work.  Summer sports club has also been popular this half term and we are all looking forward to continuing the fun after half term.  ​

In 3LD we’ve learned about the British currency. We’ve made clocks to help us learn time. I loved the clocks! We’ve been learning o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past. In 3LD we’ve been learning Roman numerals. Also, the yes and no game at playtime and I won!  
Science has been wonderful from working with shadows all the way to measuring them. 
In MFL, we’ve learned the French alphabet and we’ve been learning our family names. We’ve been introduced to opaque, transparent and translucent. 
We’ve learned in English how to write a cinquain poem and to plan and write a newspaper report. In reading skills we’ve been reading the book Survivor of Pompeii. I really liked it. In computing, we’ve been understanding that the internet is quicker.  I loved computing because we created posters. I tried to add detail.

​On Thursday afternoon, our Year 5 scholars attended their graduation at Magdalene College, Cambridge. They explored the peaceful, picturesque campus and were in awe at the university culture. The inspirational tour was issued by current Cambridge University students, who were answered a plethora of insightful questions into University life including how they made the decision to enter further education.
The day was capped off by a Graduation Ceremony, where each pupil stood at the front of the lecture theatre and their achievements - the successful completion of a scholarship programme, requiring a 500-word essay - were celebrated.
Well done to all 12 pupils! You have made the Year 5 team, and East Tilbury Primary, extremely proud.

“Really good! I love how big and spacious it is. I am amazed how modern and large the old buildings are inside!”

“Exciting to be in one of the top universities in the world. I feel like I am very lucky to have this experience.”

“I was very proud of myself graduating the scholar’s program. It was a great experience and it was fun.”

I felt honoured and proud to enter one of the most prestigious universities in the United Kingdom. I felt fortunate and lucky to be chosen and selected for the Scholar Programme. It was a fun and amazing time.
 
D (5NB):
I was proud and overjoyed to receive my graduation and the Scholar Programme was exiting and challenging but that is how it’s suppose to be challenging but not impossible. It was a great experience and I would do it again.
 

Mental Health and Wellbeing blog

This week marks Mental Health Awareness week and this year the focus is directed towards anxiety. In school, children have been continuing to utilise their nurture nooks when feeling anxious and have been discussing strategies to support themselves when they are faced with anxious thoughts and feelings.

In reception this week we have been reading the story Little Red Riding Hood. We have been using descriptive language to describe the contents in Grandma’s basket.  In choosing time some children enjoyed acting the story out with friends using different resources that they found in the classroom. 
We talked about what we liked about the story. 

WD said, “I like it when the wolf hides Granny in the wardrobe”. 
FLM said, “I like Red Riding Hoods coat because it is red”. 
MB said, “I like the soft wolf when is sneaky”. 
We also discussed the children’s favourite traditional tale. 
EB said, “my favourite is the Gingerbread Man, I like it when he runs away.” 
LG said, “I like Goldilocks and the Bears story, I like her golden hair.” 

In maths this week we have been using first, then and now to support us with adding on more using different stories and scenarios to support us. We have gotten very confident and recognising amounts without needing to count each object.

This week we have also been looking at maps as well as drawing our own maps from our favourite fairy tales.  We looked on google maps JP said, “I think I live down the opposite bit of the co-op”. MB said, “the school is near here”.  ​
