Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.

Here at East Tilbury Primary School, pupils have opportunities to use a variety of instruments to create music in their classes. Within music sessions, children also get the opportunity to listen to music from different cultures. Children in both KS1 and KS2 can participate in a choir that is run by staff within the school and children regularly take part in the Thurrock Music Festivals. There are opportunities for children to learn to play a musical instrument in individual music lessons and children as a class/year group learn to play an instrument together.
