Time is flying! 
In English, we are totally absorbed in 'The Wizards of Once', a super fun book featuring wizards, witches, warriors, and Sychorax! We've been using our sentence stacking skills to write amazing newspaper reports. We learned how to make eye-catching headlines using the 5 W's and wrote funny eye-witness quotes and interesting headings. 
Our brains have been busy in Maths, mastering short multiplication and short division using written and mental methods. We are working hard on our times tables recall on TTRockstars—the inter-class competitions are so much fun! 
Science has been a blast! We learned all about the human body and the different functions of the organs, focusing a lot on the amazing digestive system. The most memorable lesson was the experiment where we made our own model poo to see how food gets chewed, broken down, and ends up as waste. It was messy but so fun working together in our groups! 
Finally, in Computing, we've become sound experts, learning how sound is recorded digitally and making our very own podcasts! 
We've had a brilliant, fun-packed start to Year 4 and can't wait for more exciting things to come! ​

We were divided into stations and together showing solidarity, we all contributed to making beautiful cards which will be sold at our Fair. We are hoping that you will be able to come along and admire the hard work the whole year group have put in. Additionally in Science, we enjoyed learning about the phases of the moon and explored various facts about the moon. They created a moon dial that shows the various phases and hopefully they showed these to you at home. In English, we started writing our poems independently after having planned our WW1 animal, setting descriptions and rhyming couplets last week. They were able to self-assess their work after responding to feedback and shared their work with each other. In Maths, we explored short multiplication (2 or 3  digits by 1 digit ) and long multiplication (2 digits by 2 digits) using columnar methods and area models.  ​]]><![CDATA[History Blog]]>Mon, 24 Nov 2025 00:00:00 GMThttps://east-tilbury.osborne.coop/etp-blogs/history-blogWe have had some exciting history lessons across the school this term.  
Year 1 have been learning about toys. Last week, they had a visit from the ‘History off the Page’ travelling toy museum. The children explored old toys and had the opportunity to make toys such as peg dolls, puppets, clay animals, a cup and ball, hook a fish or a spinner. 
Year 2 have been learning the space race. They have enjoyed finding out about which country won the space race and the astronauts that took part in the missions.  
Year 3 have been learning about the Stone Age. The children have been learning about the tools used for hunting and how early humans told stories through cave paintings. Year 3 created their own cave paintings.  
Year 4 have enjoyed learning about the Anglo-Saxons. They have created information boards about Sutton Hoo, exploring the fascinating Anglo-Saxon burial site and its artifacts, including the famous helmet and ship burial. 
Year 5’s history topic is World War 1; they have learned about trench warfare on the Western Front and how the war expanded to a global conflict.  
Year 6 have been learning about World War II. They have learned about the bloodiest battles on the Western Front and had thoughtful reflections on bravery and resilience during wartime. ​

Poetry Fun 
Our theme has been “If I Were in Charge of the World”. We explored what life would be like if we could make the rules! The children came up with amazing ideas—everything from choosing their own pets (unicorns and dragons were very popular!) to deciding what meals we’d have every day. We loved imagining a world where homework might disappear and ice cream could be a main course! Everyone worked hard to write their own poems, and we shared them with the class. The creativity was incredible! 
Maths Magic 
In maths, we’ve been learning about pictograms. We collected data about our birthdays and different characteristics in the class, then turned that information into colourful pictograms. It was a great way to see patterns and learn how to present data clearly. The children enjoyed comparing who had birthdays in the same month and spotting interesting facts about our class.

This week in RMB we have been working hard in Phonics, and we have learnt the sounds ck and e. We have been working hard on our letter formation, and we are getting a lot more confident at blending the sounds together to read words. We are really enjoying using our ‘robot arms’ to segment words too which we do so well!
In Maths we have been using a range of different equipment to represent numbers in different ways.  We were great at spotting that the amount did not change even if the arrangement of the number did.
For topic we learnt all about Remembrance Day and even stayed silent for one minute to remember all the service people. We also made our own poppies using different materials and media. We used pompoms to print poppies as well as cupcake cases and playdough.

Year 3 – All About Me- (J'apprends le français -I am learning French) 
Year 3 pupils are taking their first big steps into conversational French. This half term, they are learning how to introduce themselves by sharing their name, age, and nationality. They are practising a variety of basic greetings and learning how to ask someone how they are feeling—and reply when asked. They are also working on recalling numbers one to twenty and using them accurately. By the end of the unit, they will be able to express their nationality and say where they live using simple French sentences. 
 
Year 4 – Telling the Time (Quelle heure est-il?- What is the time?) 
In Year 4, the focus is on learning how to tell the time in French. Pupils are revising numbers one to twelve before moving on to saying the time on the hour and in five-minute intervals. They are developing their confidence in asking and answering “Quelle heure est-il?” while using clocks, games, and speaking activities to reinforce their understanding. 
 
Year 5 – Dates and Birthdays (La Date- The Date) 
Year 5 pupils are exploring how to talk about dates in French. This includes learning or revisiting numbers up to thirty-one, practising the days of the week, and becoming familiar with the months of the year. The main outcome is to confidently ask and answer the question “Quelle est la date ?” They are also learning to say when their birthday is in French, helping them apply vocabulary to real and meaningful contexts. 
 
Year 6 – Clothing and Descriptions (Les vêtements -Clothes) 
In Year 6, pupils are studying vocabulary linked to clothing. They are learning to recognise, recall, and spell twenty-one different items of clothing while exploring the “je porte” structure in French. Building on this, they are beginning to describe various items of clothing in full sentences, making use of adjectives and colour agreements. This unit encourages them to expand their written and spoken French with greater detail and accuracy.
