Year 5 pupils loved the opportunity for some impromptu creative time outside on Monday. It was great to see the pupil experiment with different designs, methods of working and engineer their own unique pieces of artwork. Well done to all our pupils for being mindful of safety and showing respect to everyone else’s work. A busy week in our penultimate week of the Autumn Term. On Tuesday we had our last swimming session – the pupils had final assessments for certificates of achievement and played fun games in the pool. On Friday we had our regular half term Curriculum Day, our focus this time was Design Technology. We made, or rather are still making, waistcoats for a bear/doll/other toy. This was a super day with pupils showing some really good sewing ability and persevering when faced with new skills to learn. We have also discovered some potential fashion designers of the future! We will be continuing and completing our waistcoats on Monday morning and then look forward to welcoming Y6 parents/carers into our classrooms during the second half of Monday afternoon to take part in a craft activity – decorating Christmas tree baubles or designing a door hanging. Miss Coldwells We’re so excited in Year 6! This week saw us welcoming December – we can’t wait to put up our Christmas trees!
Next week we will be enjoying our last week of swimming, where we are all looking forward to a week of fun and inflatables in the pool. We also enjoyed an afternoon of rewards for all the children who had completed all their homework for this half term! In English, we have been writing a diary entry from the point of view of a Jewish child experiencing the event of Kristallnacht (The Night of The Broken Glass). The Year 6 staff have been so impressed with the children’s independent ideas and vocabulary. In Maths, pupils we have been continuing our learning on fractions – Miss Coldwell’s favourite. More specifically, we have been deepening our knowledge on finding fractions of amounts; some even found tricky amounts like 6/7 of 8.4 Despite it being so close to Christmas, the children have been working incredibly hard across all subjects in the curriculum. A big pat on the back to everyone! This week in 6CP we have been writing a diary entry in English about a Jewish person during World War II, who was being persecuted by Nazis. Also, we have taken part in our swimming lesson on Tuesdays (we go to Blackshots in the morning). We designed a waistcoat in DT before and after swimming, these will be used when we have our ‘Curriculum Day’ - we will be creating waistcoats from various resources we have in school.
During Science on Monday, we were looking at the effect of refraction in water. We discovered that if you place an image under a cup of water, it looks like it disappears when you fill it up and look from the side. Also, if you have an image one side of a cup, the image gets refracted the opposite way. Written by a 6CP pupil |
