In English this week all our wonderful classes have been working exceptionally hard, let’s take a little writing tour around the school. ​

Reception pupils have been using the book ‘I Wanna Iguana’ as inspiration for their writing. They have been using features of letter writing to use their own knowledge of initial sounds to write a letter as the main character (Alex) as to why he should be allowed a dog. 
Year One have been preparing to write their own recount by taking part in various experience days in preparation for them to write more independently. Pupils so far have been taking part in some outdoor learning and activities such as: leaf and bark rubbings, making dens for minibeasts, nature walks around the site and making bird feeders. All of this will build up and contribute to their written work by the end of this unit. 
Year Two have been working their way up to creating letters based on the book ‘This is how we do it’. They have been working on exploring the various features of letters and figuring out what does and does not apply to this genre of writing. There have been comparisons drawn between the lives of children in other countries – as this is what their book is about. 
Year Three have been looking at informal letter writing, their features and why we might send an informal letter. They will be writing an informal letter about an item they themselves had received in a letter – this will act as their reply to said letter. 
Year Four are exploring diary recounts, so far, they have looked at the features of diary entries and have started constructing their sentence stacks, in preparation for their independent write. 
Year Five are exploring a war-based narrative whereby they are looking at the concept of war, problems war causes and issues around suffering from the perspective of a child during WWII. They have explored the features and have been sentence stacking to formulate their ideas ready to write their own story. 
Year Six have been exploring poetry in the form of raps. Children have been showing off their understanding of the Teach Assessment Framework (DfE guidance as to what a Year Six child should be using in their writing) by creating a rap that encompasses the statements required. Children have been using their own wit and sense of humour to create a rap mentioning various elements of the statements. 

We have been continuing to enjoy our PE lessons this term and now have two lessons each week. We started off the summer term by using our skills of rolling, throwing and catching and applying them to use with smaller tennis balls. We’ve started to learn how to use a cricket bat and are putting these skills together to play small striking and fielding games. Once we have enjoyed our Sports Day this month, we will go back to developing more striking and fielding skills for cricket and rounders. 
For the past two weeks, we have been practising for Sports Day. We are doing really well listening to the instructions and working as a team on each activity. We are looking forward to showing our parents and carers how great our PE skills are at Sports Day.  ​
