We are absolutely delighted to announce that Mr Green, our exceptional new teacher, has been honoured with the Pearson Bronze Award for Outstanding New Teacher of the Year! His unwavering dedication to his pupils, innovative teaching methods, and positive impact on the school community truly make him a standout educator. Mr Green's commitment to fostering a love for learning and inspiring his pupils to reach their full potential is truly commendable. His passion for education shines through in everything he does, making him a remarkable asset to our school. Today, I am excited to share with you my favourite math lesson: coordinates. It's like a secret code that unlocks the hidden treasures of the math world! Remember, the x-axis comes before the y-axis, just like the plot points on a line graph. It's all about connecting the dots to reveal the big picture.
It reminds me of when we were on a treasure hunt for 6 lolly sticks, there were 9 teams. Let me tell you what we were supposed to do. Instructions
(4NM Sarita) In English, we do this thing called sentence stacking. Sentence stacking is where you have different sections (LC1, LC2, LC3) and you plan in your section (Jotting chunks). When you have done your planning, you write a sentence with your words, phrases or sentences. When you have finished all your sentence stacking lessons, you write all of your paragraphs and it will turn into a story, poem, diary or play script. My favourite piece of work was the play script about the plague because learning about the plague was interesting. Also, when I read back through my work, I found it really fascinating. In maths we are learning about coordinates. Coordinates are sometimes a little bit hard (depends on what we are doing). Since we are doing coordinates, I think we are going to go outside more because the playground is bigger than our classroom (and it’s so hot in class). Coordinates are ok but I sometimes get a bit confused by it all. Today we wrote a secret message in groups and put it on lolly sticks. We then wrote the coordinates on a sheet and hid the sticks so that other groups could find them. In Art, most people like it because we get to use our creative skills. Like how we were inspired by the Egyptians; we made Papyrus and Zines using coffee to give the paper a brown effect. We tried to use tea but that just made it wet (especially mine). Faheema and Kaitlyn (4NM) In maths, I really liked practising my times tables for our year 4 times tables test, I think I did well. At the start of our lesson, we do flashbacks, this really helps me to remember what we learnt the day before. We have been playing rounders in PE; I really like catching the ball and running. Once, I hit the ball and got all the way round and didn’t get out. In reading skills, I really liked The Twits because Mr Twit was a ‘right wrongun’. Lilly (4NM) I think school is a good educational place where kids can learn Maths, English and more. It’s a place where people can make friends, have fun and use skills and talents. Reice (4NM) I liked learning about Ancient Egypt and learning how they lived, it was very interesting. I enjoyed doing experiments in science and learning more about states of matter. PE is really fun, and I like doing sports, recently we learned to play rapid fire cricket. I don’t like reading skills that much or doing reading tests. Learning about coordinates and the X and Y axis is fun, especially the lesson we had today outside. I don’t like French that much. Abigail (4NM) In English this week all our wonderful classes have been working exceptionally hard, let’s take a little writing tour around the school.
Reception pupils have been using the book ‘I Wanna Iguana’ as inspiration for their writing. They have been using features of letter writing to use their own knowledge of initial sounds to write a letter as the main character (Alex) as to why he should be allowed a dog. Year One have been preparing to write their own recount by taking part in various experience days in preparation for them to write more independently. Pupils so far have been taking part in some outdoor learning and activities such as: leaf and bark rubbings, making dens for minibeasts, nature walks around the site and making bird feeders. All of this will build up and contribute to their written work by the end of this unit. Year Two have been working their way up to creating letters based on the book ‘This is how we do it’. They have been working on exploring the various features of letters and figuring out what does and does not apply to this genre of writing. There have been comparisons drawn between the lives of children in other countries – as this is what their book is about. Year Three have been looking at informal letter writing, their features and why we might send an informal letter. They will be writing an informal letter about an item they themselves had received in a letter – this will act as their reply to said letter. Year Four are exploring diary recounts, so far, they have looked at the features of diary entries and have started constructing their sentence stacks, in preparation for their independent write. Year Five are exploring a war-based narrative whereby they are looking at the concept of war, problems war causes and issues around suffering from the perspective of a child during WWII. They have explored the features and have been sentence stacking to formulate their ideas ready to write their own story. Year Six have been exploring poetry in the form of raps. Children have been showing off their understanding of the Teach Assessment Framework (DfE guidance as to what a Year Six child should be using in their writing) by creating a rap that encompasses the statements required. Children have been using their own wit and sense of humour to create a rap mentioning various elements of the statements. English
In English, we have been using chot boxes to write a narrative about a girl called Rose in WW2. We all find using chot boxes easier than the writing lessons that we did in year 4. Every week or so we have experience days. These are where we take days off from chot boxes and have fun, whilst learning more about the characters or things that we are writing about. Sometimes we re-enact parts or we get a deeper understanding of the text. Class Text After English or if we get time at any point in the day we read our class text ‘Little bad man’. It makes the whole class laugh a lot at it and we love it! It is based on Humza, who wants to be a rapping superstar with his best friend Umer. We found the bee scene extremely funny. Science In science, we are currently learning about the changes of our body and this week we are going to learn about puberty. Last week we learned about the 6 life stages (Baby, Toddler, Child, Teenager, Adult and elderly) and had a chance to roleplay the changes involved. This was lots of fun and made us all giggle. History In history, we’re learning about the first world war. We have learnt about the different types of trenches, weapons and the cause of world war one. We have looked at the young, boy soldiers who would lie about their ages to enlist in the war. Recently, we have started to learn about WW2 as part of our new English unit. This will help us with our new topic in year 6. Music In music we have been learning the songs: The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and livin’ on a prayer by Bon Jovi. We have enjoyed learning how to sing the songs and exploring the rhythm and beat. By Jacob and Ian We have been continuing to enjoy our PE lessons this term and now have two lessons each week. We started off the summer term by using our skills of rolling, throwing and catching and applying them to use with smaller tennis balls. We’ve started to learn how to use a cricket bat and are putting these skills together to play small striking and fielding games. Once we have enjoyed our Sports Day this month, we will go back to developing more striking and fielding skills for cricket and rounders.
For the past two weeks, we have been practising for Sports Day. We are doing really well listening to the instructions and working as a team on each activity. We are looking forward to showing our parents and carers how great our PE skills are at Sports Day. |
