1FK have made a great start to the year. The children have settled in well to their new classroom, and we have had a very busy first term learning new things.

In our maths lesson we focused on ordering numbers from smallest to greatest and greatest to smallest. We enjoyed using pictorial representation to learn to order numbers from smallest to greatest. We also learnt to use the < and > symbols to compare numbers within 20.

In our English lessons, we have been focusing on writing instructions; we looked at features of instructions and learned about imperative verbs in a set of instructions. We watched a video about how to make a peg car and wrote our own set of instructions. We also had lot of fun designing our own peg car, then we followed our instructions to make our own peg car.
We ended our peg car project by evaluating our cars.

This week, two prefects from 6CP have been interviewing pupils across the school about what they have been doing in English. 
Reception informed the Year 6 pupils that they were exploring playing as doctors and nurses, practising their letter formation and exploring the Gingerbread Man. 
 
Year One have had a writing focus on digraphs this week as well as letter formation. Pupils have been challenging themselves to write as neatly as possible as well as work using the digraphs which they have been focussing on this week. 
 
Year Two have had a focus on animals this week and they have been reading their class text, as well as having lessons based around said text. Pupils have been practising sentence formation as well as remembering the punctuations which they have been taught so far at school. 
 
Year Three have been writing a letter this week based on their text ‘Stone Age Boy’. They have been immersing themselves in what it might be like to be a child during the stone age and prehistoric era. In order to write their letting, they have been creating a story mountain about the key events of life in the stone age – in preparation for their letter in role. 
 
Year Four have been focussing on subordination and paragraphs. In order to lengthen their sentences, pupils have been adding conjunctions to their work to expand their sentences. In order to show self-responsibility, pupils have been using their trusty purple pen to edit their work and ensuring that sentences made sense. 
 
Year Five have been exploring diary entries based on a short clip called the ‘Dream Catcher’. Children have explored the features of diary writing, as well as immersing themselves in the text – to get them fully entranced in the learning at hand. In order to consider the impact of dreams, pupils have been sharing some of theirs with the class, some were amazing; others were slightly scary. 
 
Year Six have been focussing on a short clip called ‘Francis’. A girl has gone missing at Quetico Provincial Park – a park that sits between Minnesota and border of Canada. Children have been creating conspiracies as to how she went missing – and more importantly – what being might have contributed to her missing status. Children have created setting descriptions and have began their own narrative about ‘Francis’. ​
