Writing update from Mr Palser

Reception 

In reception this week, they have been working on repeated refrains. They have read ‘That's Not My Mermaid’ and then had a go at writing their own repeated refrain. They have been focussing on The Deep Blue Sea this half term. I like the reasoning behind why it was not this pupil’s worm

Year One
Year One have been looking at the story 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley' which is a book about plastic pollution and taking care of the animals in the ocean. From this story, Year 1 have written persuasive letters to encourage people to not put litter in the ocean and clean up after themselves when they are at the seaside. 
 
Year Two
Year Two have been writing stories based on the Great fire of London. They have been exploring the features of narrative writing and then used that knowledge to create their own story. This has linked in with their termly topic and they have worked incredibly hard to recreate the situation in a story.

Year Four
Year Four have been focussing on the Ancient Egyptians this half term and they have been looking at narratives this week. Unfortunately, the class banana met an unfortunate end each of the class mummified their banana, in order to help its journey to the afterlife. Pupils have then written about its journey to the afterlife – depending on how pure of heart the banana was would determine whether it go into the afterlife or get stuck in the underworld.

Year Five
Year Five are working on a newspaper report based on events from Private peaceful by Michael Morpurgo and World War One. This included creating eye catching headlines, factual introductory paragraphs, hot seating to produce quotes from characters and conforming to the key features we identified earlier in the week. 

Year Six
Year Six have been creating a newspaper report this week based on the class nursery rhyme: Jack and Jill. Jack, unfortunately, was the victim of an attempted murder and the detectives in year six have been trying to work out who tried to commit this heinous crime! They have written a newspaper report based on their findings, using the appropriate features for newspaper writing.
