Safer internet day

For the fifth year in a row, East Tilbury Primary School is a registered supporter of Safer Internet Day.  In the Key Worker classes and on Google Classroom there will be a range of learning opportunities to reflect on how we use devices, apps and platforms in a safe way.

A great way you can get involved is by sharing with family, friends, colleagues and neighbours to raise awareness.  This can be as simple as retweeting #SaferInternetDay.
 
Alternatively, it is worthwhile reading the latest research about how children and young people use and feel about online platforms.  There is even a quiz that you could complete on your next family video chat.
 
Additionally you can be join the attempt to be part of an official Guinness World Record attempt taking place between 10am today and 9:30am tomorrow morning!
 
However, most important of all is taking the opportunity to join in with the conversation at home.  Children’s perceptions can differ from adults so it is important to discuss online safety often.
 
There is an internet matter app that can help, the useful ThinkUKnow website is a wonderful resource and today these a live lesson, suitable for all ages, provided by Barefoot Computing.  The recording will be available afterwards too.
 
Since starting in 2004, Safer Internet Day has grown considerably.  This year 1,700 organisations and schools across the UK are getting involved to help inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively.
 
We are proud to be taking part and look forward to sharing some of pupil’s work on this topic.  There are rumours that the Year 5 Key Worker Class are working on a song…!
