Writing Around ETPS
Over the past two weeks, in the build-up to half term, the children have been continuing to work hard on their writing. Let’s look across the school at what each year group has been working on. In our Annexe Provision, the children have been looking at retelling the story of The Paperman with their own twist. Pupils have been using various literary devices to help with their own version of the story, including: fronted adverbials, similes, expanding sentences by varying the clauses and rhetorical questions. Year Six are finally onto undoubtedly one of the most popular texts to write, an instructional text based on ‘How To Annoy Your Teacher’. Pupils have had the opportunities to come up with their own ‘creative’ ways to irritate those pesky critters, otherwise known as teachers. They have then been putting their cunning, plans into action by writing their own instructional text. Disclaimer: As it stands, no teachers have been hurt in the process… Year Five have been looking at Katherine Rundell’s The Explorer as their stimulus for writing. Only last week did they take part in an Experience Day whereby they had to construct their own raft to explore the challenges one might face if stranded in a jungle. After using their experience day to help them understand the challenges of being stranded, pupil have been stacking their sentences in preparation to write their own version. Year Four are looking at Ted Hughes’ Iron man and have completed experience days where pupils designed their own helpful robot, which is good for helping during everyday life, we have explored clips of the Iron man and made inferences and predictions about the main character wand what might happen in the story. Year Three have started looking ‘The Sound Collector by Roger McGough’. This poem is the stimulus for their own version of the poem based on colour. They have looked at the shape of the original poem and have now started to look at how they can change it and base their own version on colour. Year Two’s writing now is based on their science unit of Space. They have written a question and answer-based text about Tim Peake. Gathering facts from a text about his life achievements. The children have been understanding the importance of different question types, and how this can aid us in retrieving information and getting the most interesting responses from who they are questioning. Year One are looking at ‘How to use a Bee-Bot’ they have linked their English writing to their computing topic using the Bee-Bots and getting them to follow instructions. Children have been exploring putting instructions in the correct order and what happens if the instructions are not in the right order. Reception are looking at Lost and Found and are starting to structure their own words that would be suited to a story-style version. They have explore the story and retold it with a focus on the penguin and even naming their own one in class. Comments are closed.
