1SL have had a great start to the spring term, fully immersing ourselves in our new topic of ‘King and Queens’. We have enjoyed creating a banquet fit for royalty and writing some delicious menus. We identified what qualities a good monarch needs and have even taken turns to be a King or Queen for the day! We considered why rules are important and what would happen if there were no rules at all. In English we are looking at the traditional tale Rapunzel. We have focused on the events which happen at the beginning, middle and end of the story and we are beginning to plan our own version. In maths, we have been continuing to explore different strategies we could use to help us with addition, including counting on, make ten and using near doubles. We have been exploring how wheels and axels work in DT and are looking forward to designing and making our own carriages using these mechanisms. In science, we have started to classify animals based on their characteristics
