Summer 1
In year 3, the pupils explored various ways their families could be described and depicted their own fictitious family in French by name, age and relationship. They learnt how to say the numbers from zero to one hundred and understood possessive adjectives better in French (‘my’ form only). In year 4, pupils looked at Vegetables this half term. Their final outcome was the ability to buy vegetables at a French market stall. Throughout the lessons, pupils named, recognised and recalled from memory up to 10 vegetables in French. Then learnt to use the high frequency verb ‘je voudrais’ from the verb vouloir, to want in French. In Year 5, the children enjoyed learning how to say what ice-cream flavour they would like in French. They could recall up to 10 ice-cream flavours in French, say whether they would like a cone or pot and possibly how many scoops. They revised how to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ in French when using the structure ‘je voudrais…’ plus an ice-cream flavour. Finally, in year 6, pupils enjoyed recalling 10 places in a town and understanding directions including prepositions in French. They used their knowledge to conduct a dialogue in French about where places are in a town using transactional language. Summer 2 In Year 3, the pupils will end the year learning about different fruits in French. We aim to teach the children up to 10 fruits to ;ask somebody in French if they like a particular fruit, and respond with their opinions (both positive and negative). In Year 4, the pupils will name and recognise up to 10 animals in French. They will learn to spell some of these nouns with their correct indefinite article and (with the singular of the verb être (je suis = I am), pretend that they are a particular animal using the 1st person verb. Year 5 will be describing what rooms there in a house or apartment. The pupils will learn to say where they live and be able to use a negative structure to describe what rooms they do not have in their home. To extend ideas, they will also use the conjunction 'et' (and) to link two sentences together. Finally, in Year 6, the children will tell the time in French using quarter past, half past and quarter to. This will extend to saying and writing what activities we do at the weekend using two or more sentences and giving their opinions on them. Comments are closed.
