We have been writing up our version of The Lost Thing during English. We watched the whole clip and then wrote our own story. In maths we looked at place value and we had a lot of practice on rounding. We used a helium balloon to explore whether numbers rounded up or down. PE we did some netball and gymnastics. In the afternoon, we did some French, Geography, PSHE and History. We had positive choice time on Friday, we have to make sure we make the right choices so we can earn our minutes, it is great fun!
This half term we went on our residential to Stubbers. We took part in lots of activities, that were lots of fun, but also challenging. We tried out kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding and even had the chance to jump into the lake! When not in the water, we took part in rifle shooting, axe throwing, rock climbing and high rope activities. On our first day, we had lots of thunder, lightning and heavy rain, although this did not stop our activities as we were able to go inside instead. It was, however, very cold at night! Prefects were chosen this half term, and we have already started our job roles. We are helping to run the KS2 snack trolley at lunchtimes and even get to lead celebration assemblies on Fridays. We are excited for more prefects to be selected as we get nearer to Christmas. So far this year, we have been learning about World War 2. We have spent time learning about how WW2 started, The Blitz, evacuees and Anne Frank. Our class really enjoyed learning about Anderson Shelters and even have a competition where we can create a model of one at home in order to win dojo’s and prizes. The models that have come into school look great! In English, we have been writing sentence stacks based on the book ‘The Arrival’. This is a picture book about a young girl, whose father needs to leave the family to move away and find work. We were able to use lots of paper related vocabulary to come up with some interesting plot points. Our new English unit is based on a recount from an evacuee’s viewpoint. It is based on the book ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’. So far, we are finding evacuees interesting and, in some ways, shocking. There are lots more experiments this year in our science lessons. We have been able to make circuits, and experiment with different voltages. We have learnt the different symbols for the different components used in our circuits and spent time making and sending our own morse code messages. Finally, we get to use the year 6 iPads this year, which means that we can use TTRS in the mornings, as well as read books from the classroom library. There is a competition for the class with the best TTRS score in year 6 – we are trying hard to win! Welcome Back! I Cannot believe we are nearly halfway through our first half term already. The children have returned eager to learn we have been able to use whole school again now the RAAC has been sorted. For year 2 this has meant they have been able to get back into a classroom. It has been lovely to see how well the children have quickly settled into their new classes and daily routines. They have been amazing!
Each class should have been introduced to their new themes for this half term and the children seem eager to explore these more. I can’t wait to see to amazing work that will be produced. Year 2 have had a brilliant start to the year with their theme ‘Animals’. Their ball skills in P.E. have really impressed me, showing control with their hands and feet and have followed instructions carefully. We have also looked at place value in maths where the children have used Dienes, bead strings and cubes to make 2-digit numbers and partitioning them in various ways. In English we have been reading a story called ‘The Crows tale’, exploring powerful vocabulary and descriptive language. We have high expectations in year 2 and have set our standards high for the rest of the year. Exciting times for our maths teaching at ETP. Across the Osborne Cooperative Academy Trust, all the Primary schools have started using Ark Maths. This is an excellent resource and we are all excited about helping our pupils to achieve well in maths and to learn and understand Maths Mastery. Staff have ongoing training from Ark Maths to continue to up-level our teaching skills. Across the school, pupils have been working really hard and are embracing the new format of our maths lessons with enthusiasm
