6NM Class Blog - Pupils’ Views on Their Learning
In 6NM, we believe that learning should be an enjoyable adventure, and our pupils have shared their thoughts on what makes their educational experience special. With a diverse range of subjects and engaging teaching methods, our class ethos of “Together we will achieve more” truly shines through. Enjoying Learning Our pupils express a genuine enjoyment of their learning experiences. G.A. shares, “I enjoy Maths because we go into details and good explanations, I also enjoy PE because we get physical.” This sentiment is echoed by many, as they appreciate the accessible topics and methods of teaching that make learning both fun and meaningful. For instance, RA states, “I really enjoy PE and Badminton (After-school Club) and English because they are not boring.” Self-Directed Learning One of the highlights of our Maths lessons is the ‘Talk Tasks’ approach, which encourages self-directed learning. Pupils are empowered to apply cooperative values of self-help and self-responsibility. HC notes, “I like Maths, PE and computing because Mrs Martin makes it fun.” The introduction of mathematical vocabulary helps deepen understanding as students explain their thinking during problem-solving activities. Engaging English Themes In English, we explore a variety of engaging themes that cover different writing genres. Pupils have particularly enjoyed writing persuasive letters to the Grinch and narratives inspired by the short animation, ‘The Paperman.’ BH shares, “My personal favourite lesson is English, because I love writing and our lessons are extremely fun.” This enthusiasm for writing is a testament to the creative environment we foster in our classroom. Cross-Curricular Connections We also make cross-curricular links throughout our learning, which keeps lessons creative and engaging. For example, F.O. reflects on the WW2 topic, saying, “I really enjoyed the WW2 topic because it was very interesting to find out how people risked their lives to make ours better.” This approach not only enriches their understanding but also allows them to see the relevance of their studies in a broader context. Respecting Diversity Our class is a vibrant mix of backgrounds and perspectives. We respect each pupil’s views and ensure equal opportunities for all. As TA mentions, “I think our current History topic ‘Ancient Greece’ is really interesting for me and I want to find out more.” "Our class is diverse, respecting pupil’s views and giving equal opportunities to everyone." G.B. This respect for diversity enhances our learning environment, making it a safe space for everyone to express their thoughts and ideas. Embracing Challenges While not every subject is a favourite for everyone, our pupils understand that challenges are part of their education. For instance, JA admits, “I enjoy doing Science experiments like the skittles one. Also, I find French a little bit hard because I can’t always remember the words.” This acknowledgment of challenges reflects a mature understanding of their learning journey. Fun and Practical Learning Science lessons are particularly popular, especially when practical experiments are involved. RB shares, “I really like Science, especially when we are doing experiments, making blood using cereals, food colouring and marshmallows was my favourite one.” This hands-on approach not only makes learning enjoyable but also reinforces key concepts through active participation. Conclusion In 6NM, our pupils are not just learners; they are active participants in their education. From the excitement of PE to the creativity of English, each subject offers unique opportunities for growth and discovery.
