This week has been very busy in Y6; we have completed another round of Practise SATs papers, along with all the other Y6 pupils in the Osborne Cooperative Academy Trust. All our pupils demonstrated super resilience and have shown us the progress they continue to make in their learning as we work our way through the Y6 curriculum. We have also been really enjoying our PE lessons this half term: in dance we are using the Ancient Greek Olympics as our inspiration but are also using features of the modern Olympics, 6LC have particularly enjoyed watching the drumming from the Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and incorporating this into their dance routines. In gym, we are working in 2s or 3s to create and perform a sequence involving shapes, balances and smooth transitions between the individual features of the sequence.
We have had some exciting history lessons across the school this half term.
Year 1 have been learning about kings and queens. This week, they acted out the coronation in groups and had learnt 10 fun facts about King Charles. Year 2 have been learning the space race. They have enjoyed finding out about which country won the space race and the astronauts that took part in the missions. Year 3 have been learning about the Romans and Julius Caesar. They used the Chromebook to carry out research about his life and made a double-page spread to display the information they found. Year 5 have explored the 4 periods of the Maya civilisation and created a timeline displaying the approximate 2000 years of their existence. They worked collaboratively to create 4m project including images and facts that occurred in each period. Pupils conducted their own research on devices and summarised input from the lesson to form their timelines. In Year 6, they are exploring the Ancient Greeks across the curriculum. In History specifically, they are looking at the key eras of Ancient Greece and how the era has defined the modern western world. They are looking forward to exploring renowned mythology and Greek Gods and Goddesses on Enrichment Day this coming Friday. Mr Rumble’s teacher blog
Can you believe that next week marks the half-way point of the school year? So much achieved so far… from year 6 sitting their mock SATs in preparation for summer-time assessments; to year 1 having the ‘Marvellous Monarchs’ come and visit to tell them all about Kings and Queens; Year 5 have created incredible art pieces linked in with their science and Maya topics; Year 2 are lucky to have a planetarium set up in the school this week to learn about our solar system; year 3 and 4 are busy learning all the words for all the songs of Shakespeare Rocks, ready for the spring production and Reception classes have been reading my favourite Julia Donaldson Story ‘Zog’ as their text. That’s only recently. And there is so much more yet to come! |
