This half term we went on our residential to Stubbers. We took part in lots of activities, that were lots of fun, but also challenging. We tried out kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding and even had the chance to jump into the lake! When not in the water, we took part in rifle shooting, axe throwing, rock climbing and high rope activities. On our first day, we had lots of thunder, lightning and heavy rain, although this did not stop our activities as we were able to go inside instead. It was, however, very cold at night! Prefects were chosen this half term, and we have already started our job roles. We are helping to run the KS2 snack trolley at lunchtimes and even get to lead celebration assemblies on Fridays. We are excited for more prefects to be selected as we get nearer to Christmas. So far this year, we have been learning about World War 2. We have spent time learning about how WW2 started, The Blitz, evacuees and Anne Frank. Our class really enjoyed learning about Anderson Shelters and even have a competition where we can create a model of one at home in order to win dojo’s and prizes. The models that have come into school look great! In English, we have been writing sentence stacks based on the book ‘The Arrival’. This is a picture book about a young girl, whose father needs to leave the family to move away and find work. We were able to use lots of paper related vocabulary to come up with some interesting plot points. Our new English unit is based on a recount from an evacuee’s viewpoint. It is based on the book ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’. So far, we are finding evacuees interesting and, in some ways, shocking. There are lots more experiments this year in our science lessons. We have been able to make circuits, and experiment with different voltages. We have learnt the different symbols for the different components used in our circuits and spent time making and sending our own morse code messages. Finally, we get to use the year 6 iPads this year, which means that we can use TTRS in the mornings, as well as read books from the classroom library. There is a competition for the class with the best TTRS score in year 6 – we are trying hard to win! Comments are closed.
